One issue Vaughn firmly believes in is to improve our teachers' wages, as he has family members who are educators and he knows how hard it is to live with their current salaries. California should not be proposing more budget cuts to the K-12 system when our society values education and technology the most. We need innovators, engineers, and writers that will soon lead the state, not unemployed teachers and disadvantaged students.
Housing in California should be lowered to an amount that is both reasonable and affordable. More and more residents are burdened by the high cost of housing. No longer will people pay over half their income on rent.
It is time we start getting non-violent inmates out from behind bars and back into society. Our prisons are overflowing with citizens because of outdated drug charges and unjustifiably prolonged sentences. We will decriminalize drug addiction and open the door to rehabilitation centers.
For far too long, the police have been abusing their authority and power. We will make certain that the police are held liable for crimes they commit. There will be no more suspensions with pay. Some label the police as the biggest gang in America. We have to fix this title. Our officers used to be heroes that we respected and we were always able to go to them when in need. Although we have good officers, our funding is better suited back into our torn-down communities that desperately need the aid. More neighborhoods need the funding to rebuild than policemen need new vehicles.
In order to keep them liable for every action, police officers in every city and county will be required, with no exceptions, to wear a body camera. This is not a war on our officers, for we are a party for law and supporting our officers. We have a broken police system that is in need of reconstructing.
It is time we get our homeless citizens off of our streets. We will stop building unnecessary buildings and start building shelters. Every man, woman, and child is entitled to a safe and secure place to live, especially when they are struggling through hardships. Jerry Brown, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and even Gavin Newsom could not get it done. In fact, the issue has been growing substantially. Under my policy and leadership, we will get it done.
Our local businesses are suffering as far too many homeless people make their home in front of shopping centers. We will ensure security for our business people, and at the same time, the safety and security of our homeless people. No longer will homeless people have to worry about being dragged away or harassed by police because of their poor living situation. Victims of domestic abuse are also often found in situations where they cannot leave their abuser for fear of homelessness. We will have 24/7 emergency shelter for adults and children that fall victim of domestic abuse.
California is home to some of the most ridiculous laws, and far too many laws. Starting from day one, we will begin to end vehicle smog, for this is a useless and unnecessary law. Vehicles will be able to have aftermarket parts, you will be able to customize your vehicle to your liking, and we will have no tint law for it is your own personal privacy and property when you are in your vehicle. Dog neutering and registering will no longer be a requirement. It will be your own decision to neuter or spay your animal. We will listen to the people and get polls on laws to see what is the biggest inconvenience to them.
We will make sure that no matter what religious views you hold, you will be protected. We will prevent any unlawful surveillance or accusations against any groups based on beliefs, whether they be Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jew, Atheist, or Raëlians.
We need harsher penalties and more jail time for child sex offenders. It is time to stop allowing judges to give offenders slap-on-the-wrist punishments time and time again. We will begin more strict and harsher sentences for these violations.
Coming from a family of primarily construction workers, and as a former construction worker himself, candidate Dakota K. Vaughn would ensure fair wages for construction workers as well as union protections. Laborers can be assured that they will reap benefits from tax payer subsidies rather than having the contractors and developers increase their own pay.
